I was playing chess online against a random opponent who soon started swearing/abusing/insulting me once he lost the game. Clearly he was very immature, but he even sent me a threat by saying he has my computer IP address and he's going to find me in real life. Is it possible he can do this? Or was he just saying that to scare me.Is it possible he could do this?
Wind and Bull Sh**
Your IP address is probably assigned by DHCP anyway and without assistance from your Service Provide he don't stand much of a chance
Technically, yes. However, it depends on how the game was programmed. If you played it over the internet, it's most likely NOT peer to peer, and therefor he wouldn't be able to get your IP.
Even if he got it, it's not possible to get an exact location unless he talked to your ISP. No need to worry, these kind of kids are threatening people 24-7.. :]Is it possible he could do this?
Yes it is possible, If what he said is true then the most he can probably find out about you is your IP address. He'd have to contact your Internet Service Provider to find out where you live, and I bet there's a %99.99 your ISP wouldn't tell.
You can get information down to service provider and even the city, not your house...
All the same, I would contact the local authorities and make them aware, maybe they can launch an investigation.
Maybe next time you should let him win ;)Is it possible he could do this?
He can but its hard, doubt he has your ip address even..The most he can track it to is to your internet provider. doesn't go strait to your house.
Let's be realistic, unless that guy is some sort of intelligence (which in that case he shouldn't be threatening an average guy) He's not going to do ****. Quit worrying about it
Yes.
I was playing scrabble online and my oppenent was sending me dirty words. he got triple word score every time. I located his house. I will get him.
he sounds to stupid to be of any real threat. while it is possible its remote that he actually knows how to do that.
