How can i create a chess interactive website?

Hi everyone, one of my goals is to create a chess web site where people play against each other. I'm currently on college and in less than two years I'll be done. I'll be taking some java classes soon, so I hope to learn enough to create a web page. the chess web site that I want to create is not just regular chess but a variation also. MAYBE I'll just make the chess variation since there are plenty of other web sites where you can play regular chess. The chess variation is called shotgun chess (I made a video about how to play it on youtube, search for "shotgun chess, introduction" to learn what i'm talking about, and maybe "shotgun chess, game #5" if you want to know more). Anyways, my goal is to create a web site where people can open a really plain profile and play this variation, but i don't know where to start to make it. do i need a lot of money? what programs or what kind computers i have to buy to create it? is it realistic to one person to create a web site like this or do i need to find me a team of people who want to help? i already talked to a couple of people who might be interested in working on this project. i hope someone who has done something similar can give me an advice to create this project. I do not see this project as something that will make me a profit, but if there is a way i can make some money with it, then it will be great :). That sounds like a good idea to me. You'll need a good graphic artist and quite a bit of programming knowhow. PHP is probably a good way to go as then you'll be able to create databases for keeping track of your members, and even their gameplay.



Programmers and artists vary a lot in their skills and what they ask for in payment - and the two aren't necessarily related. If the project is interesting enough some people will be willing to help for free.

Making maony from the site may not be so easy. If you're recruiting people to work for free or very cheaply they may not be too pleased if you start making money from their time and work. Here's some ideas though. Maybe have two levels of play - a free one where the games are not recorded or not saved and a premium paid service where both ae done.
