I have a 1400 rating now. I play around 10 matches against humans everyday and more against the computer on a high difficulty. I also started reading books on great past matches and frequently go online to learn new opening strategies. I really wasn't that into chess until this year but now I love the game. Can I reach a 2000 rating by the end of the summer?
I don't know you well enough to say with absolute certainty that you cannot, but I will tell you it would be almost super human. For the rest of us mere 'mortals', the gap between 1400 (low intermediate) to 2000 (expert) level is tremendous. To increase your rating by 600 points and reach expert level play in just over 3 months would be an accomplishment rarely seen, but no reason not to try. Increasing your rating by a couple hundred points in such a short period would be impressive and certainly show that you have potential to get there at some point if you really want to put in the study.
Good Luck
going from 1400 to 1600 can take an average chess player 1 year
2000? by the end of the summer?.....no freakin wayCan I reach a 2000 rating by the end of the summer?
Thats insane! You will definatly reach 2000!
Maybe/maybe not. Try and if you don't keep trying and It wont be long until you do. I have faith in your ability to do anything you set your mind too.Can I reach a 2000 rating by the end of the summer?
2000 is expert class grass hopper there's no way you can jump from beginner to an expert in a mere 2 or 3 months you just don't have the experience or the knowledge.
My advice is take the slow path master the fundamentals of good chess (essential), hire a good teacher to train and guide you and someday you'll become an expert if you really work hard and earn it!
No
You are playing against people who have that rating, because they have played many thousands of hours and have talent... You would need to win '90%' of your games against players who are in the top 1% of the ratings... Even if your a super intelligent genius, you still need to do the work.
I know a way you might be able to do this. You need to get some good tactical problem books and do all the problems in them a couple times. Im talking 1001 Tactical Combinations and Sacrifices big. The biggest obstacle between the different levels of chess players is understanding of tactics. You can get to 2000 on tactical strength if you get really really good at it. You're 1400 level positional play should be enough if you thoroughly get tactics. I'm 1729 uscf and I just beat a 1937 and 1772 player in my last tournament with tactics. Goodluck.
