For me, over the board chess is boring and distracting and abstract or blindfold chess (everything in your head), the ability to use pure abstract reasoning rather than memorization, regurgitation, and repetition to play with precision and clearly see your route, is much more stimulating, clearer, and natural for me. I enjoy playing abstract against programs at their greatest difficulties (a dedicated friend intermediates moves for me), 3000 and beyond, and am able to match them: it is at the very highest levels (chess clubs are too boring) that the chess is stimulating and the moves just make sense, because you've become fully immersed in the game, because you are the game. If the programs are any lower, they just become too easy and boring. I have found a small community in Mensa who welcome and accept these abilities, but they are few. I figured I'd try and find others who may be interested in this. Should I just stick with Mensa, or is there another community I don't know about
On a side note, I've never really studied chess. I just absorbed logical patterns and meaning from top computers and realized I could apply these patterns best in the abstract. I created a blindfold closed knight's tour on a 256 (16x16) square board entirely in my head and enjoy mental calculation too. If anyone is interested in a email game, please hit me up. Peace and thanks:)Abstract Chess environment besides Mensa?
Since you are playing blindfolded against computer programs that have a 3000+ rating, and matching them, I am afraid you won't find much competition here among us plebeians.
In fact if you played in the FIDE sanctioned tournaments, I think you would almost certainly embarrass Carlson, Kramnik, and Anand as well. So I also think you should stay away from the championship tournaments. We would not want to create chaos in our insular little world of chess.
To answer your question-- it would probably be best for all concerned if you "just stick with Mensa."
