Is there anything that I can download on Windows XP so I can play chess against a computer or a friend?



I don't want it to be an online thing, I just want to be able to play without going online. Also, I would like it if I could play against both a computer and a friend.Is there anything that I can download on Windows XP so I can play chess against a computer or a friend?
You won't be able to play with a friend without going online, unless you LAN or play on the same computer (which is what I think you want to do).



Well there is plenty of offline chess video games, one example is the Chessmaster series (their newest release being Chessmaster XI Grandmaster Edition), but you will have to buy them. I'm guessing you don't want to pay for anything and just want something you can download for free, so here's a few free chess games:
