I see games like chess & backgammon on yahoo. can i just play against a computer?

To really know the game of chess, means playing 'over the board' with an opponent and an chess clock. Then you get the feeling of being in another world of 64 squares. Also like poker almost, with the bluffing that happens when someone makes a bad move, and then pretends it's bait to a trap or the start of a brilliant move seq.



Playing on a good computer program or on line is good also. But a computer uses what is called optimum strategy, it will always make the perfect move. Of course it can be programmed for different playing styles. But it is not the same as real life chess, where one can play moves suited to your opponent, that would never be considered by a computer.
