Hi John, I suggest learning the basic connections between pieces first (attack, protection, restriction, blocking) in order to play chess well and learn fast. There are four elementary contacts in chess and each chess position can be dissected by using them. They should be mastered first as it is foundation of chess. As in life: it is contacts with your family members, your friends, your business contacts that make you powerful and successful. Take football, or basketball, or hockey, or any space control game and you will see that individual movements of players are inferior to team play, how we work together and how we interact with the opponent team. If we do not SEE connections and relations between players (or pieces in chess) during the game, it is like playing blind not realizing what is going on. It would be funny one team about to touch down, and the other team players are running in the opposite direction without seeing what is coming.

2) Ask your coach which chess books you can buy, or go to a bookstore and ask them to show you chess books for beginners..See each one of them and choose the one which offers training in opening, middlegame, endgame, tactics and strategy.

If you can afford it lessons are recommended a qualified teacher who's trained and experienced can assess your game and go over your mistakes with you and answer the questions that books don't as Capablanca says at the beginning of his book chess fundamentals learning chess without a good teacher is a very bumpy and rocky road.

You should practice more. When I was in sixth grade, I literally sucked at playing chess. Until I was in seventh grade, I started to be the top 1 / top 2 in my class. I didn't buy a chess book or anything though...So my advice is to search up some openings for both Black and White. Then use it against people.

I hope this helps...
Keep practicing ... and always see how the other player plays with you and wins .. Try to learn his moves and defend your King the best way you can ... In chess you need practice and make sure no mistakes .. Take your time play and make no mistakes if you remember you make one mistake you loose a precious piece right away ... so no mistakes and vote me for the best, thanks !!! Shaun
get a book, play others, watch tutorials and above all practice practice practice play online if you must and try to solve chess puzzles
