CHESS: Is there any free online chess software that permits me to set a position to play against a computer?

I basically want to set up some end game positions and play them against a computer. I was first thinking I might have to buy a program but I am wondering if there is something out where I can do this online. I'd preferably like a strong computer (2400+).

Winboard is free to use. Search Google and type in Winboard free software. Basically it lets you make all types of files, study games, convert the PGN downloading into watching the game, stopping it, and also you can stop the game to make a different position. Stockfish and Houdini, along with any of several interfaces, will easily do this:

Both of the above engines are rated well above 3000. (Yes, 3000)



Arena and WinBoard are probably the two most popular interfaces.
